Our 3rd Half Marathon of 2017 set out from Settle on a warm August Bank Holiday morning. The first part of the route was definitely the most challenging with a tough ascent up towards the Dales High Way, offering stunning views over the village of Settle and surrounding areas. Runners then passed caves near Brent Scar before arriving at the beautiful Catrigg Force waterfalls. A descent into the village of Stainforth for a drink stop was followed by running alongside the popular Stainforth falls and a flatter section alongside the river. The group made one final ascent up the steep hill to Stackhouse before returning to Settle to complete the 21km route. Whilst it could have been sunnier the temperature was warm and probably made for ideal conditions. Everyone enjoyed the social atmosphere mixed in with the varied trails and beautiful views, and several enjoyed a bite to eat at Poppies Cafe in the village post-run.
